On Friday the 10th of November 16:00 Laura Cobden, assistant professor at the department of Earth Sciences, will give a FEST talk about:
Putting a new spin on the Earth’s deep mantle
The lower mantle comprises ~50% of Earth’s volume yet remains one of the most enigmatic parts of our planet. I will present an overview of the latest developments in understanding the structure and dynamics of this region, bringing together modelling and constraints from geodynamics, seismology and mineral physics. I will particularly focus on our recent work on imaging mantle plumes, and evidence for an electronic spin transition in the iron-bearing minerals.
You can join the talk on-campus in KBG-Cosmos or online through our FEST TEAMS channel: https://tinyurl.com/fest-teams-meeting.
Drinks will be provided afterwards in the canteen of the Vening Meinesz.
Hope to see many of you at the FEST!
Best wishes,
The FEST committee
